Allowing TV shooting inside Assembly complex is ‘shame’: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar: Giving vent to his anger over the alleged defilement of the ‘temple of democracy’ by the Jammu Kashmir Administration for permitting the shooting of a TV series inside the Legislative Assembly complex, the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday termed the ‘happenings’ an abject shame.

It is worth mentioning that in June last year, the LG Administration permitted a Hindi-language TV series ‘Maharani’, starring Huma Qureshi, to shoot inside the assembly complex in Jammu.

While taking to Twitter, Omar Abdullah wrote:“The true face of ‘the mother of democracy’, where once elected representatives of the people from all parties, religions, backgrounds & parts of J&K legislated on matters of great importance now actors & extras use it as a set for TV dramas.”

He further wrote that it was a “shame that the BJP-driven government in J&K has reduced the symbol of democracy, where they once sat and governed, to this sorry state of affairs”.

Omar Abdullah further wrote, “They even have a fake CM coming out of an office I was privileged to occupy for 6 years. What an absolute shame!!!!”

Omar Abdullah also posted some photographs related to the shooting.

The TV series Maharani is about the political and social development that unfolded in Bihar during the regime of the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
