Militant Recruitment Reduced by 80% in 2023: DGP J&K R R Swain

Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, R R Swain on Saturday said that 80% decline in the recruitment of militants has been witnessed this year so far.

DGP, J&K, R R Swain in a year-end press briefing, referring to the militants’ recruitment, said that 80% reduction was recorded in it in the year 2023.

“To us one of the biggest achievements was the 80% decline in [militant] recruitment as only 22 recruitments were seen in this year so far in comparison to 130 in 2022. We have seen that 113 militants were killed last year and by stopping the [militant] recruitments, the lives of militants as well as our boys have been saved this year,” DGP said.

He said that 31 civilians were killed last year in militant-related activities while the same in 2023 reduced to 14, marking the reduction in it as well.

“Last year, the terror-related crime incidents were 125 and this year a 63% decrease was recorded in it after the number declined to 46 in 2023,” R R Swain said, adding a terror-incident used to happen once in three days and the frequency of which has also come down.

Regarding the strike calls, DGP said that it was already low in 2022 and has decreased further this year. He also said the organised strike calls from the militant outfits and separatists, and by gauging its response, were zero in 2023.
