Magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes Kashmir

Srinagar: An earthquake of 3.6 magnitude struck Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.

As per National Center for Seismology- which monitors earthquake activity all across the country- the earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6. on the Richter Scale hit J&K at around 4.57 pm with epicenter in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

The epicentre is located at Latitude 34.43 and Longitude 74.22, with a recorded depth of 5 kilometres.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.6, Occurred on 30-12-2023, 16:57:41 IST, Lat: 34.43 & Long: 74.22,Depth: 5 Km Region: Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, India” the NCS wrote in a post on X .

There were no immediate reports of any damage.

Over the past three weeks, several earthquakes of moderate intensity with epicene in Ladakh and Kishtwar and rocked Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh creating fear among the people.
