Apple Orchard Devastated: Miscreants  Chopped Off Dozens of Trees in Sumbal

News Desk

Sumbal : Some unknown miscreants have chopped off dozens of apple trees of an orchardist in Sumbal village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Bashir Ahmad Khan the owner, told Asian Mail he felt “devastated” after he enquired about the chopped-off apple trees of his orchard.

He said, “I went to the orchard and saw trees chopped off, it was a depressing scene leaving me frustrated over why this had happened and who had done this on such a cold night”

Khan said it was several years of hard work and with a blink of an eye, everything is gone.

He said the land that he and Ateeqa Begum had bought years ago was spread over 7 Kanals with hundreds of  apple trees now, from which around 40 trees were completely damaged.

Khan said he is “clueless” about who might have done this. “But to be honest it is not a one-man’s job”.

The apple orchard is located at Asham Sonawari  village in Sumbal, Khan said. “Police have taken cognizance of the case and hope we get justice.”
