Div Coms, IGPs get powers under UAPA

Jammu : The J&K Government today ordered that the powers exercisable by the UT under Section 7 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967, (37 of 1967) shall be exercised by the Inspector Generals of Police Kashmir/Jammu Zones within their respective territorial jurisdictions.

“The powers exercisable by the UT of Jammu and Kashmir under Section 8 of UAPA 1967 (37 of 1967) shall be exercised by the Divisional Commissioners Kashmir /Jammu within their respective territorial jurisdictions,” an order issued by Financial Commissioners (Additional Chief Secretary) Home RK Goyal, said.

The order has approval of the Central Government conveyed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
