‘I Hope and pray the Order by SC on Article 370 petitions is in favour of people’ : Omar

Srinagar :  National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that ‘he can only hope and pray that the Verdict by Supreme Court on Article 370 petitions, will be in favour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir’.

He said there is no one who can say with authority what is to happen on Monday.

“I do not have any machinery or way through which I can come to know today what those five honourable judges have in their hearts, or what they have written in the judgement. I can only hope and pray that the decision is in our favour, but, I cannot neither claim that success will be ours, nor, anyone else can,” Omar told reporters in Kulgam after a party convention.

The NC Vice President said they are waiting for the judgement and let it come.

“Let the decision come, we are not running away from here. We will react then,” he said when asked about the future course of action after the SC verdict .

The former Chief Minister expressed his apprehension that Kashmir politicians may be put under house detention by the government ahead of the SC verdict.

“They need an excuse to put us under house arrest and they have an excuse. As we are not aware of what the decision will be, so are they. If they know, then there should be an investigation,” the NC Vice President said.

Earlier in the rally, Omar said that on December 11, a party convention was planned in Sangrama Baramulla and the authorities last evening informed them that the permission granted for the event has been withdrawn.

“I had a programme on Monday in Sangrama. We were discussing with each other whether we should go ahead with the programme and meanwhile we received a letter from the government saying that we have cancelled the permission day after tomorrow. They didn’t even explain why the permission was cancelled . What is your fear?” the NC leader asked.

He said his party colleagues have been told that they won’t be allowed to move out of their home on Monday.

The Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud will deliver the judgment on Monday on the validity or otherwise of the Union government action of August 5, 2019 when J&K’s constitutional provision was scrapped.
