India poised to be active contributor to evolution of AI: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India is a vibrant start-up ecosystem with a talented workforce poised to be an active contributor to the evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

PM Modi made these remarks in his LinkedIn post on the upcoming Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Summit and emphasised that India offers solutions that are scalable, secure, sustainable, and replicable on a global scale.

He, however, added that India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative is a prime example of such pioneering efforts.

Highlighting the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various sectors, the Prime Minister emphasized its positive influence on technology, innovation, healthcare, education, and agriculture.

Modi said, “In the last 9–10 years, India and its citizens have leapfrogged with the help of technology due to the fast-paced penetration of mobiles along with internet connectivity and scalable models for digital inclusion.”

Describing India as one of the youngest nations with a vibrant start-up ecosystem and a talented workforce, Modi said it is poised to be an active contributor to the evolution of AI as the world leaps into a not-so-distant future.

Modi said forums such as the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), of which India is a co-founder, are crucial.

The GPAI brings along 28 member countries and the EU as its members to guide the responsible development and use of AI, he said.

PM Modi also invited technology enthusiasts, innovators, and stakeholders worldwide to join the upcoming Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit 2023.

India is hosting the Annual GPAI Summit from December 12 to 14, 2023, in New Delhi. The event is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister on December 12.

The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) is a multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice on AI by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities.

Launched in June 2020 with 15 members, GPAI’s membership has now expanded to 28 member countries and the European Union.
