Shorna Akter rises in Women’s T20I Player Rankings following maiden five-wicket haul

Dubai:  Sixteen-year-old Shorna Akter from Bangladesh made significant, career-best gains in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings following her maiden five-wicket haul against South Africa in the first women’s T20I in Benoni.

She sailed 46 slots to 105th among the bowlers, with 297 ratings points from 151st and leaped 38 slots to 79th in the all-rounders list with 63 points, sharing the position with Pakistan’s Aliya Riaz (up 13 places) and New Zealand’s Hannah Rowe (up four spaces) in the weekly women’s rankings update that carries the week’s performances up to the December 4.

Her teammates also staked a claim in the rankings after going one-nil up in their three-match series against South Africa starting on December 3. Rabeya Khan rose five places in the bowlers list to 24th with 591 points and jumped 12 spots from 75th to 63rd (72 points) in the all-rounders list, while Fahima Khatun skipped three places to 46th with 511 points.

In the batters list, captain, Nigar Sultana slid up one slot to 19th (586 points) while opening batter, Murshida Khatun’s 62 from 59 balls elevated her seven places to 41st with 464 points.

Other gains from that match saw South Africa’s Anneke Bosch jump 20 slots in the batters list to a career-best 14th place (612 points) after scoring a personal-best 67 from 49 deliveries and went up eight places to 54th in the all-rounders’ list (83 points).

In the T20I series opener between the White Ferns and Pakistan, the visitors overcame the hosts, pulling off an exciting seven-wicket victory.

The rewards came in the form of their places in the rankings, with Fatima Sana rocketing up 28 slots to 49th among the bowlers on 498 points, trailed by Diana Baig who rose two spots to 50th.

Sana also rose 16 places to 37th (103 points) in the all-rounders list and is followed by Sadia Iqbal (48th from 50th).

New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and Maddy Green also rose in the rankings for their contributions to their cause.

Devine’s 2/23 in three overs saw her jump five places to 62nd (442 points) in the bowlers’ list and up one slot in the all-rounders list to sixth place with 299 points, while Green’s unbeaten 43 from 28 balls saw her slide up two places to 46th with 461 ratings points.
