DDRC Ganderbal celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Ganderbal: The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) Ganderbal, implemented by the She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs (SHSFWE), Ganderbal, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities today with lively performances.

The function was presided over by  Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani.

The celebration, held at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Dudderhama, featured a variety of cultural performances, skits, and a felicitation ceremony honoring disabled achievers.

The inclusive cultural program captivated the audience with its diverse range of performances. Children with and without disabilities showcased their talents through a captivating dance performance, a melodious song, and a thought-provoking skit. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and confidence resonated with the audience, who responded with applause and appreciation.

The event saw a huge participation of prominent individuals, including persons with disabilities, their families, volunteers, staff, and supporters of She Hope Society.

Several speakers addressed the occasion and emphasized the significance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On the occasion, several individuals with disabilities were honored who have made remarkable achievements in various fields, including education, sports and entrepreneurship.

The beneficiaries shared their inspiring stories of overcoming obstacles and realizing their dreams with the support of various government initiatives for specially abled persons.

In a significant step towards inclusion, She Hope Society has so far facilitated  the processing of Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards for persons with disabilities. Several cards were processed on-site, ensuring that individuals have access to this essential identification document.

District Social Welfare Officer apprised the participants about  government schemes available for specially abled persons aimed at enabling such persons to achieve self-reliance and economic independence.

The Executive Director of She Hope Society presented an informative update on the Nirmaya scheme, a comprehensive government initiative aimed at empowering persons with disabilities.

The celebration concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to foster an inclusive and accessible society where persons with disabilities are recognized, respected, and empowered to thrive.

Among others, the event was attended by Chief Planning Officer Ganderbal, Programme Officer ICDS, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, District Social welfare Officer and other officials.
