DC Srinagar tours Shahr-e-Khaas areas of the City

Inspects progress of ongoing works on Habba Kadal Bridge, Beopar Mandal Mahraj Gunj, Malaratta Street, Dalgate-Gojwara corridor, Nalamar road under SSCL

Srinagar: The Deputy Commissioner(DC), Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Saturday undertook onsite visit and inspection of various ongoing development and beautification works being executed by Srinagar Smart City Limited(SSCL) in Shahr-e-Khaas area of the District.

Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and CEO, Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) Athar Amir Khan accompanied the DC during the visit.

The Deputy Commissioner took stock of beautification, upgradation and redevelopment works being executed on old Habba Kadal Bridge, Beopar Mandal Mahraj Gunj, Malaratta Street, Dalgate-Gojwara corridor via Dastageer Sahib Shrine and other works along Nalamar Road of the City.

 While inspecting the progress of works taken up Redesigning of old Habba Kadal bridge, the Deputy Commissioner was informed that in a bid to preserve the old heritage and also create public place in the congested old City area, the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) has taken up a project to redesign the old Habba Kadal bridge at the cost of Rs 1.80 crore.

He was informed that the Bridge is being redesigned similar to Zero bridge, will have a lot of sitting spaces, Gazebos and kiosks on it after its completion and will be exclusively for pedestrian use only. He was also informed that over 80 percent works on the bridge have been completed and illumination and other works will be completed soon.

 On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned Officers to expedite the project in a stipulated timeline so that local population is benefitted. The DC also asked for exploring possibilities for making car parking facilities on both ends of the bridge falling on Jhelum river, besides taking necessary required measures for face lifting of embankments/surroundings on both ends of the bridge. He also asked PDD authorities to explore possibilities for utility shifting of electric installation at the spot.

 At historic Beopar Mandal in Mahraj Gunj area of the City, the DC accompanied by CEO, SSCL, took spot inspection of the ongoing works on at an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore project for, underground electric ducting, drainage/ sewerage, rationalization of electric utilities façade improvement of Copper Market in Zaina Kadal and Mahraj Gunj.

 Similarly, the DC inspected the works on the Rs 13 crore project on Malaratta Street (Bohri Kadal–Pandan Axis). On the occasion, the DC was apprised that about 30 percent of work on project stands completed and work on underground ducting of electric cables and drainage/sewerage network is going in full swing.

 Later, the DC inspected the pace of ongoing works on Rs 23 crore project being executed at Dalgate-Gojwara corridor via Dastageer Sahib Shrine comprising of upgradation of road, construction of footpaths, rationalization of utilities, construction of 8 Km drainage network for storm water, plazas at different intersection etc.

On the occasion, the DC stressed the Officers of the concerned Departments and Executing agencies to mobilize all available machinery and manpower to accelerate the pace of ongoing works and ensure their completion with the set timelines keeping in view the impending weather conditions.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Superintendent of Police, SP Traffic, Chief Planning Officer Srinagar, Superintending Engineers of R&B, SSCL & PDD, ARTO, Tehsildar South, Tehsildar Khanyar and senior Officers of SSCL and District Administration.
