DPAP anguish over prolonged power cuts in J&K

Srinagar: Democratic Progressive Azad Party on Thursday expressed serious concern and disappointment owing to unscheduled and prolonged power cuts in Kashmir with the onset of winter. The party chief spokesperson Salman Nizami said that the BJP govt has failed on all security and developmental fronts and is pushing the people of J&K specially Kashmir to a dark age. He said the people have been left literally frustrated by the prolonged and unscheduled power cuts and the prevailing outage is one of the worst in all times in Kashmir. “ What we were told is that Jammu and Kashmir will be a prosperous and peaceful state after article 370 abrogation and the miseries of people will be resolved. But what we see militancy is proving more lethal than ever before. The power outage has become extremely worse,” he said.

Nizami urged the government to restore the power supply to consumers without unscheduled cuts since the tariffs have been increased and the smart metres have been installed across all the major and minor cities and towns. “How can we expect the economy of people to grow when they are fighting for their basic survival? Electricity is a basic necessity and every citizen of the country has fundamental rights over it,” Nizami added.

The DPAP chief spokesperson said that the drastic power cuts are not only impacting the common people adversely but the small scale industries too face its negative impact due to low productivity. He said it is the job of the government to ensure power is supplied as per promised schedule to the people of Kashmir.
