J&K on path to lasting peace, says DGP Dilbagh Singh

Urges youth to choose peace over militancy

Kupwara:Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday said that J&K is treading on the path of peace as only 10 local youth have joined militancy which shows a notable difference from the previous year’s 110 figure.
Speaking to media persons here in Kupwara, DGP Dilbagh Singh as per KNS expressed a strong desire for youth who have joined militancy to choose a peaceful path, saying, “I wish if these 10 couldn’t have joined militancy it would have been joy for us.” He said out of these 10, six have been neutralized in different encounters, and the remaining four are expected to meet a similar fate soon.

DGP urged these left-out militants to give up arms and surrender before security forces, stating, “They should surrender before the security forces, and that will be good for them, so that they too will live their life peacefully.”

Describing the evolving security situation, the DGP highlighted, “Jammu and Kashmir has seen a significant transformation over the last five years. Militancy has been almost wiped out from the region, and the few remaining active militants will also be neutralized soon.”

He expressed his hope that this new found peace would endure for the Union Territory. He also addressed the issue of Kupwara district being used as a narcotics route. He urged the people of the district to recognize the harm in this practice, saying, “It is unfortunate people of the district should think about it, that it is wrong, and should close these ways themselves for living a peaceful life.”

He added, “We are with peace, not with violence,” underlining the importance of choosing a peaceful coexistence in the region.
