Govt hike subsidy for Ujjwala beneficiaries to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder

New Delhi, Oct 4  : Ahead of key state polls and festive season, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday raised the subsidy amount for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder.

“Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has played a significant role in the lives of women of our country and Today’s decision will benefit them,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said while briefing media on Cabinet decisions.

Union Cabinet also approved Terms of Reference to Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal-II under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956 for its adjudication between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Anurag Thakur said the resolution of dispute will open new avenues of growth in both the States.

In another decision, the government has also approved an amendment to the Central Universities Act, 2009 for setting up of Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Telangana.

The Government also notified the establishment of the National Turmeric Board. National Turmeric Board would increase awareness and consumption of turmeric and develop new markets internationally to increase exports.

“The National Turmeric Board will play an instrumental role in increasing awareness and consumption of turmeric and developing new markets globally to increase exports,” said Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.

He said this will fulfill the demands of farmers of Telangana.
