‘It was an attack on honesty’: Ex-MLC

Demands CBI Enquiry in Gurmeet Singh’s Case

Srinagar,Sep 1: Former MLC of BJP Charanjeet Singh Khalsa on Friday demanded a CBI enquiry into the mysterious death of Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) R&B Gurmeet Singh and said that it was an “attack on honesty”.

As per the news agency CNS, Khalsa said that Er. Gurmeet had come home on the 25th of August evening and had left home again on the same evening for another meeting. “After not returning home till night, his family members along with civil society members and others started searching for him. On 29th August around 10 am his body was found at Gauntmullah gate,” he said.

He said that Er. Gurmeet was also the nodal officer for the R&B’s land falling between Narbal-Uri on which double-lane and four-lane work would initiate, and the persons finding him a problem in their ways “hatched a conspiracy to get around it.”

Khalsa further said that he also met the district administration as well who hailed the Er. Gurmeet’s integrity and were hoping that he would be traced alive.

“Later I also met the SSP Baramulla and he said that the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch. He also said that they have sealed Er. Gurmeet’s office and have taken files from there as well,” Khalsa added.

“We have full faith in the police here who have controlled the militancy. People across religious lines have voiced that there should be an enquiry into the case via CBI. I also believe that this case should be investigated by the CBI because it is a matter of an honest person,” said the Ex-MLC BJP.

He further said the probe into the case should carried out expeditiously, with severe punishment to be given to the accused as it was an attack on honesty, “which neither us nor the BJP could tolerate.”

Meanwhile, Khalsa also commended the communal harmony maintained by the Muslim community in the case and said that they (local Muslims) told him that they would not tolerate any wrongdoing and that the perpetrator(s) involved should be given stringent punishment.
