Law and order events reduced by over 97% in J&K post Article 370 abrogation: Centre tells Supreme Court

Says not a single instance of “organised bandh”, stone pelting was reported since 2019 in J&K

Srinagar: The Centre on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that law and order events in Jammu and Kashmir have been reduced by over 97 percent post abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, while there have been no instances of stone pelting and organised bandhs in the Union Territory since 2019.

Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, who is representing the Centre in article 370 case in the Supreme Court informed the top court that post abrogation of article 370 terrorist initiated instances have been reduced by 45.2 %, infiltration has been reduced by 90.2%, while law & order events have been reduced by 97.2% and security persons casualty has been reduced by 65.9%.

 

As per details available with Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said that 1779 cases of stone pelting were reported in 2018, while not a single case of stone pelting was reported from 2019 till date.

 

“In 2018, 52 instances of organised bandhs were reported, while not a single instance of organised bandh was reported from 2019 till date,” he said.

 

On investment infusion post abrogation of Article 370, he said that Rs 28,400 crore central sector schemes infused investment has been made for industrial development, while Rs 78,000 crores other private investment proposals due to central government efforts have also been made and Rs 2,153 crores actual investment was done in 2022-23.

 

On establishment of projects in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehta informed the court that 53 projects worth Rs 58,477 crore were sanctioned under prime Minister Development Package of which 32 projects have already been completed.

 

On tourism boost post abrogation of Article 370, he said that

1.88 crore tourist footfall was recorder during 2022, while 1 crore tourist footfall has been recorded during 2023 till date.

 

On transparency resulting from IT initiative, he said Rs 9,229 crore funds were spent in e-tendering and e-payment of projects during 2018-19, Rs 92,560 crore funds have been spent in e-tendering of projects during 2022-23.

 

He also said that around 450+ services have been made online for the first time including land records in Jammu and Kashmir.
