Sarore Toll Plaza: Won’t pay ‘illegal Jaziya’, say protesters in Samba

Samba: Locals from the Samba district of Jammu region continued to stage protests for the consecutive second day against the toll tax levied by authorities at Sarore Toll Plaza.

The call for the protest was given by a local outfit ‘Yuva Rajput Sabha’ that has been demanding the removal of the Sarore Toll Plaza.

Protesters alleged that at least 40 protesters have been detained by police for staging a peaceful protest. “Democracy is in danger. We are not even allowed to express ourselves peacefully,” they said.

Pradhan Bar Association, who was part of the protest, said that people have a legal demand and that is to charge toll tax only when you provide better roads.

“Our brothers who have been locked up by police have gone on hunger strike inside the police station and this protest will continue till Toll Plaza won’t be removed from Samba,” he added.

A lady protester told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the people of Jammu are being suppressed and it’s time for people to get their rights restored.

“Yuva Rajput Sabha has taken a good initiative. People are joining this protest. We are being forced to pay ‘illegal Jaziya’, she said.

Protesters said that the administration has imposed restrictions on the movement of people near Sarore toll plaza and is charging toll tax from the people.

The protestors said the toll plaza has been set up in violation of the rules.
