Charter Ceremony of Soroptimist International -Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 19 :A Charter Ceremony, unfolded in the heart of Srinagar,  of Soroptimist International Srinagar(Kashmir)– SI Srinagar( Kashmir) club has shone a spotlight on the organization’s commitment to education, empowerment and enabling the women through advocacy, awareness and action. The ceremony was attended by the women from international, national and regional platforms- a milestone in the journey towards gender equality and social change.

Soroptimist International, a global women’s organization with a legacy spanning over a century, champions the cause of women’s rights and socio-economic empowerment on an international scale. The Charter Ceremony of Soroptimist International Srinagar (Kashmir)was  a testament to the interconnectedness of a global sisterhood united by a common purpose. The Charter Ceremony was called to order by Ms Gulafroz Jan and Rizwana. The Island/ lighting of the lamp was conducted by the President ParveenPandit, and Members of the club- a tradition and solemnity to the proceedings. Mir Insha Farooq, the Secretary of the club, extended a warm welcome to all the SI sisters, Cathy Cottridge, President SIGBI ( Soroptimist International Great Britain  and Ireland) and the Chief Guest, Prof.Neelofer Khan, HVC, University of Kashmir, Guest of Honour, Prof. Pam Rajput, Prof.Emeritus, Punjab University, Patiala, Guests, Prof.SeemaNaz, Principal of the host institution and the Media- setting the tone for an event centered around shared goals and aspirations. ZainabRiyaz, the Club Communication officer,spoke about the Vision and Mission of the organisation encapsulating  the essence of Soroptimist International’s commitment to fostering positive change in communities. Gurmeet Kaur, Club Representative, introduced Cathy Cottridge, President of Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI). Cathy’s presence symbolized the broader reach of the Soroptimist movement, spanning continents and cultures. The Chartering of SI Srinagar (Kashmir) and the Collaring of President by SIGBI President were poignant moments, signifying the official birth of a new chapter and the formal investiture of leadership responsibilities.Cathy spoke on the occasion

Recapping the journey that led to this moment, AnithaRajarajan (Organisational Development Officer))  reminded the audience of the collective effort and dedication that brought Soroptimist International to fruition.

AnuWakhlu  provided insights into the vital role the organisations play in addressing contemporary challenges and shaping the future.  The SI Srinagar Kashmir President, Prof.ParveenPandit was introduced by Anita Rajarajan about her work in the field of women issues apart from her contribution towards Higher Education Prof. Parveen’s acceptance speech was embodiment of her and teams commitment towards the attainment of the objectives, She introduction the SI Srinagar ( Kashmir) members  and the badge-pinning ceremony by Cathy, Anitha, and Nisha symbolized the collective commitment of the members to the ideals of Soroptimist International.

Amidst a cascade of felicitations by SI President Maureen, NASI President Nisha Ghosh, SI Poona President Kulsum, NASI President Elect Naina Shah, SI South Kolkata President Jyothi Prasad, SI Delhi President Jaya Ahuja, SI Calcutta Papia Mukherjee, SI Leh Angmo Konchok, and SI Bangalore Zareen, the  newborn club was honoured for inclusion and contributions to the global movement.

The Charter Ceremony also featured illuminating project presentations of SI Srinagar Kashmir by Insha Mir ,Asma, and Nasiya- Communication Officer, Joint Secretary & Treasurer of SI Srinagar (Kashmir).Prof Pam Rajputin her special address, congratulated SI Srinagar for the charter and spoke about Soroptimist International and how she is proud of being part of such a prestigious international organisation.

Prof Nilofar Khan, chief guest of the occasion, emphasized the importance of women empowerment and visibility in all the fields through capacity building and awareness  of women and the role of organizations like Soroptimist International in fostering meaningful societal transformation.

The event became colourful through a cultural showcase directed by Dr.Samreen and Prof.Gurmeet as a part of Kashmiri tradition.
