Chandrigam Bridge in Tral poses life threat to villagers

Tral, Aug 5: Locals from Chandrigam and adjacent areas Saturday appealed to the district administration to repair the damaged bridge which is at high risk of collapsing due to heavy flow of water.

The flash floods caused by a cloud burst recently in the Narastan area damaged the vital bridge connecting dozens of villages in the Tral sub-division of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Locals told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a big hole on one side of the bridge can prove fatal anytime. “We requested authorities to repair it, but there was no response. Authorities will wake up from slumber only when any mishap will happen,” they said, adding that the safety of the people using this bridge is paramount and the potential consequences of its collapse could be catastrophic.

The locals urged the district administration to repair the bridge without any delay.
