Kupwara always acted gateway of peace: LG Manoj Sinha

Kupwara, Aug 4 :  Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha Friday said that Kupwara which was once considered a hot bed of militancy has now switched to being home of tourism and sports activities. He said the district has always acted as a gateway of peace in the region.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inaugural function of a multi-purpose indoor stadium in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Kupwara was once considered a hot bed of militancy. He said after a decade’s time people of the district understood the nefarious designs of terrorists and repercussions of this ill-fated game. “Today Kupwara is a way of peace and development. The locals are contributing immensely in nation building, which clearly defines that J&K is changing after Article 370 abrogation,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha as per KNS said.

He said today a multi-purpose indoor stadium worth rupees 4 crore was inaugurated in the district with an aim to provide a rich platform to local youth and engage them into sports activities. “I wish this endeavor will play a positive role in bringing youth to a platform where from their talent and skill will be showcased to the world,” LG said.

To a query, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Kupwara has turned into an attractive destination for tourists and the government is doing much to enhance the tourism potential in the district. “In the past Kupwara was abandoned by regional political groups but let you see today it has been brought on the map of tourism. There is a considerable flow of tourists in the district and administration is keenly interested in augmenting the facilities further,” he said.

LG Sinha was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, VK Bidhuri; ADGP Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kjmar; Secretary Youth Services and Sports J&K, Sarmad Hafeez and others.
