Srinagar, Aug 1 : All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to State Election Commissioner demanding simultaneous elections for three tier Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRI) in the Union Territory.

The AJKPC delegation said, earlier the elections were being held in a phased manner for the PRIs in Jammu and Kashmir that was consuming a lot of time.

“We demand the three-tier PRI elections should be held simultaneously this time in the Union Territory,” the delegation said.

The delegation of AJKPC demanded that elections to the Block Development and District Planning and Development Board at village level should simultaneously be conducted with the Halqa Panchayat elections to save time.

The Panchayat Raj Act, 1989 provides for a three tier system Halqa Panchayat, Block Development Council, and District Planning and Development Board at Village, Block and District level respectively.

Recently Jammu and Kashmir State Election Commissioner B R Sharma had said that the Panchayat election would be held in November-December this year.
