Modernisation of Naanwai Bakery Shops under PMFME Scheme initiated in District Srinagar

DC Srinagar inspects upgraded units to assess the impact of the scheme

Srinagar, July 14:Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar,  Mohammad Aijaz Asad today inspected several  Bread Makers (Naanwai) Shops in Ikhrajpora area of the District taken up under PMFME Scheme to restructure the traditional Naanwai shops by installing modern ovens to ensure proper hygiene in and around the shops besides maintaining quality of the products.

During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the owners of Naanwai Shops and assessed the technological interventions adopted by them through Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises(PM FME).

 Scheme under One District One Product(ODOP) initiative of the Government through which financial and infrastructural support is provided to ensure sustainable livelihood of Local Bread Makers (Naanwai).

On the occasion, the DC asked the beneficiaries to further improve and upgrade the Units under the scheme envisaged for handholding and upliftment of the beneficiaries.

The DC said Administration is very keen about handholding and upliftment of the Naanwai’s of Srinagar District as Naanwai’s are an essential part of our society besides the century’s old culture and tradition Kashmir valley.

The DC also said that intending Naanwai’s need not to move office to office instead a representative from the concerned Government Department are visiting the shops of the Naanwai’s for proper verification and other documentation process. He also said that proper training is also be given to the beneficiaries under the scheme. On spot directions were given to the Area Marketing Officer Horticulture (P&M) Srinagar/DNO PMFME for follow up of the cases of the beneficiaries at all levels.

Other units upgraded under the ODOP scheme including Bakery Shops  namely Hilo Bakery Nowgam and Food Makers Qammarwari were also visited by the Deputy Commissioner.

Pertinent to mention that under the scheme ,a loan amount  is provided to the beneficiaries with 35% subsidy upto a maximum of Rs 10 lakh in order to start or upgrade the unit on modern lines.
