Directorate of Family Welfare MCH & Immunization J&K commemorates ‘World Population Day’

Srinagar, July 11: On the eve of ‘World Population Day’, the Directorate of Family Welfare MCH & Immunization J&K today organized a function at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School KothiBagh Srinagar to commemorate the day.

Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director Health Services Kashmir was the chief guest while Director Family Welfare MCH & Immunization J&K Dr Tabasum Jabeen and Principal Govt Girls Higher Secondary School KothiBagh Srinagar, Nusrat Bukhari were the guests of honour.

Other dignitaries included Assistant Director Family Welfare Kashmir Division, Dr Masrat Jabeen; Audio Visual Officer Family Welfare J&K, Rehila Noor; Administrative Officer Family Welfare J&K, Hilal Ahmad Wani and faculty of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School KothiBagh Srinagar.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Health Services Kashmir said that World Population Day is celebrated throughout the world to educate and aware the masses on the recent trending Global Population Growth and how it impacts or rather threatens the economy and development of the country. He further stated that overpopulation is a crucial issue, especially considering that resources are depleting at an unsustainable rate and it becomes the responsibility of every citizen to take collective measures in this regard.

Director Family Welfare J&K, while addressing the students said that World Population Day on 11th July is of great significance as the day highlights the problem of increasing population and that the rapid rise in the population impacts various aspects of the resources that humans need to survive. She further emphasised that apart from the scarcity of natural and renewable resources, there is no denying that the unprecedented rise in the population will hugely affect the living conditions of the humans.

Assistant Director Family Welfare Kashmir Division stressed that World Population Day is a reminder that we can achieve the prosperous, peaceful and sustainable future envisioned by policy makers for Sustainable Development if we harness the power of every human being on the planet.

In the end, vote of thanks was presented by Masooma Husain, Faculty Member of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School KothiBagh Srinagar.
