12 persons “bound down” for “‘disrespecting” national anthem

Srinagar, July 6 :12 persons were “ bound down”, after they allegedly failed to stand up for the national anthem in a sports event presided by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on June 25, police said.

Police said 12 persons have been “generally bound down” for good behaviour under sections 107/151 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The sections of CrPc empowers a magistrate to extract a “bond”, or a written statement, from a person who “is likely to commit a breach of the peace .
Police did not identify the accused in the case.

Police also refuted a news report which stated that 14 persons were arrested in Srinagar for disrespecting the national anthem.
“It is clarified that the news is completely false,” a Srinagar police tweet said.
The alleged incident took place during the closing ceremony of the ‘Pedal for Peace’ cycling
event, which was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police, on June 25.
Besides LG Sinha, the event was attended by several senior Jammu and Kashmir officials.
