Two Firefighters Suffocate In Moominabad Fire, Hospitalised

Srinagar, July 3: Two firefighters were admitted to hospital during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday while extinguishing flames in the Moominabad area of Batamaloo, officials said.

They stated that a fire once again broke out in the Mominabad Batamaloo area on Sunday late at night, resulting in two firefighters experiencing suffocation.

An official from the Fire and Emergency Services informed the news agency KNO that two officers, namely Noor Alam Jatla, sub-officer F&ES, and Altaf Ahmad Rather, leading fireman F&ES, suffered from suffocation and were subsequently taken to hospital.

“While extinguishing the flames, both of them experienced suffocation and breathing difficulties. They were then taken to hospital late at night. Noor Alam has been discharged, but as a precautionary measure, he remains in hospital,” the official stated.

“We have successfully controlled the fire, and to prevent any further incidents, we have deployed a water pump and a firefighting vehicle at the site,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that officials informed KNO that the firefighting operation lasted for a lengthy six hours during the daytime. Firefighters from 19 stations and 20 vehicles participated in the operation, given that the building contained paint and other petroleum products.
