NIT Srinagar’s Rajbhasha Cell organizes workshop for Ministerial, teaching staff

Hopeful to achieve 55 percent target by the end of this year: Prof. Yedla

Srinagar, June 27: The Rajbhasha Cell of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday organized a day-long workshop on ‘Measures to increase the use of official language Hindi in administrative works” for Ministerial, teaching staff of the institution.

Jagdish Ram Pauri, Joint Director, Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs was the main resource person for the workshop.

 The event was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr) Sudhakar Yedla, who was Chief Guest in the event and Institute’s Registrar Prof Syed Kaiser Bukhari was Guest of Honor on the occasion.

Asstt. Registrar (Audit), Mubashir Ahmad Wani, Assistant Registrar (Adm) Mohammad Iqbal Dar (Supervisor of Hindi Teaching; Rajbhasha Cell), Hindi Officer Dr. R P Shukla (Asst. Prof. CED), Coordinator of the event, Dr. Sabzar Gani Batoo and faculty coordinators of Rajbhasha cell and ministerial staff of NIT Srinagar attended the workshop.

In his key address, Jagdish Ram Pauri, Joint Director, Department of Official Language, MHA highlighted the brief history of Rajbasha and its importance.

He said the central government has taken steps to encourage the use and propagation of Hindi as Rajbhasha while also recognizing and supporting the diversity of languages in the country.

Pauri said on 14th September 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the Indian Union.

“Hindi is connecting language of the country and is being spoken by millions of people and is the dominant language of the Indian subcontinent,” he said.

While sharing his long association with the Hindi language, Pauri highlighted the rules and regulations of the Official language act.

“We need more efforts for its implementation and the main aim of organizing such events is to raise awareness regarding the official language,” he added.

Addressing the workshop, Prof. Yedla appreciated the efforts of Rajbhasha Cell and Coordinators in implementing official language in the administrative work.

He also expressed his gratitude to resource person Jagdish Ram from MHA for extending their full support in achieving the target set up by the Parliamentary Committee to ensure Hindi is used increasingly in the administration.

“NIT Srinagar is putting its best efforts to make sure that all official orders come in bilingual form. So far we have achieved over 30 percent and we are very hopeful by this year target of 55 percent will be achieved,” Director NIT said.

Prof. Yedla said during the recent elaborated meeting of Rajbhasha Cell, all Deans, Heads of departments were instructed to involve the Hindi language in their official work.

“For the promotion of Hindi on the campus, we are planning to set up display boards in all departments to highlight word of the day in bilingual form,” he said.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said various efforts are being taken to implement the Rajbhasha, and all important circulars and orders from the Institute are issued in the bilingual mode so that the Rajbhasha implementation target is achieved,” he said.

 Prof. Bukhari appreciated the efforts of Dr. RP Shukla, faculty coordinators, and the entire team of Rajbhasha Cell for organizing the workshop and stated that NIT administration will continue to provide support to such programs.

In his inaugural address, Hindi Officer Dr. R P Shukla (Assistant Professor, Civil Engg) said the Rajbhasha cell of NIT Srinagar is working on a mission to implement official language on the campus.

Dr. Shukla expressed gratitude to Mr.Jagdish Ram Pauri, JD, Rajbhasha Cell, Department of Higher Education, MoE for hosting two sessions of the workshop.

He thanked Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Yedla, Registrar Prof. Bukhari, and for their unconditional support in making the workshop a grand success.

Dr. Shukla also appreciated the efforts of faculty and student coordinators for their hard work in making the mega event successful.

Both Dr. Brajesh Kumar and Dr. Brajendra Singh Senger delivered their expert lectures on ‘How to increase the use of Official Language in administrative work.

Hindi Translator NIT Srinagar, Dr. Sabzar Ahmad Batoo presented an expert talk on ‘Hindi typing and Translation on Mobile Phones and PCs”.

Dr. Sabzar highlighted various tools for Hindi translation and stated that these tools can be helpful. They may not always provide perfect translations, especially for complex or nuanced content, he added.

The workshop was also attended by all faculty coordinators of Rajbhasha Cell including Dr. Amandeep Singh, Dr. Mohammad Aslam, Dr. Brajesh Kumar, Dr. Prabal Verma, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Dr. Brajendra Singh Sengar, Dr. Prvan Kumar, Dr. Atendra Kumar, Dr. Jitendra Gurjar, and Er. Junaid Ul Islam.
