“Students Should Wear What They Want”: Ashok Kaul On Srinagar School Hijab Row

Srinagar, June 8: The general secretary (organisation) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ashok Koul, Thursday voiced his support for personal independence in dress choices after a group of students from Vishwa Bharti Higher Secondary School in Srinagar took a stand against the school authorities, protesting against the alleged prohibition of wearing the ‘Abaya’.
“There should be no force in what to wear and what not. We won’t decide anyone’s dress; there should be complete independence. We can’t force anyone to wear what he does not like. Students should wear what they want,” he told reporters at Srinagar.
Ashok Koul expressed his belief that no one should be compelled to wear something they dislike. He emphasized the importance of individual freedom and stated that students should be allowed to wear what they want, without interference or coercion.
The protest erupted earlier in the day, with students gathering to voice their discontent against the school authorities. They claimed that they were prohibited from entering the school premises due to their choice to wear the ‘Abaya.’
