NIT Srinagar organises stress management workshop for PhD Scholars

Such sessions are need of hour: Registrar Prof. Bukhari

Srinagar, June 1: The Counselling Cell of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Thursday organised a ‘Stress management workshop for research scholars of Electrical and Electronics Department.

The session was conducted by Feroz Malla Institute’s Counsellor.  Dr. Neeraj Gupta (Coordinator), Dr. Ikhlaq Hussain also attended the session.

The event was also coordinated by PhD counsellors from NIT Srinagar including Mr. Nasir Rehman and Masiha Aijaz (EED). The workshop highlighted emotional issues faced by students and remedial actions.

In his message, Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said stress management workshops are the need of the hour for PhD scholars and students.

“They play a crucial role in addressing the unique challenges faced by students, promoting well-being, enhancing productivity, and building resilience,” he said.

Prof. Bukhari said such sessions are providing practical knowledge, and strategies help to navigate the mental challenges faced by the students.

In his key session address, Feroz Malla said pursuing a PhD is a demanding and rigorous academic journey that often involves long hours, intense research, and high expectations.

“Both PhD scholars and students face significant pressure to meet deadlines, conduct experiments, write dissertations, and balance multiple responsibilities. Stress management workshops provide scholars with practical tools and strategies to cope with academic pressure effectively,” he said.

Around 40 scholars attended the workshop and during the session many stress-free management activities were organised for the participants. Many scholars also shared their journeys with the audience.

On the occasion, Coordinator of the event, Dr. Gupta said students on campus often experience a range of mental and emotional challenges, including anxiety, self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and isolation.

“Such workshops help scholars recognize and address these issues by providing them with techniques to manage stress, regulate emotions, and promote self-care,” he said, adding that these sessions create a supportive environment where scholars can share their experiences and seek guidance.

Dr. Gupta also said that they are going to conduct more such sessions in future, so that there will be a stress-free atmosphere on  campus.

He said the counselling cell of NIT Srinagar is at forefront in tackling these issues with a well-trained counsellor and dedicated student volunteers.
