Contractors Call on LG Sinha To Address Non-Payment of Dues

Srinagar, May 29:  Local contractors working on various government projects, have urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address their grievances, alleging that their dues are not being released on time.

A group of contractors from Srinagar said that despite completing the projects on time they do not get their dues. “We are usually being told that the dues have not been released by the department, therefore, we are being asked to wait for a long time, due to which our families are suffering,” they said.

“The works are being completed on time, but whenever we ask for the pending dues, we are being forced to wait for months together,” contractors alleged, adding that local contractors to the laborers employed for the works are facing immense hardships due to the delay in releasing of the pending dues. “We faced huge inconveniences on Eid-ul-Fitr and now we hope issues will be resolved ahead of Eid-ul-Adha,” they said.

“In six months, only one bill is being cleared with the result, the contractors aren’t able to clear the payments of labourers let alone feed their own families. We also face delays in getting materials, especially DT structures including wires, poles, meters, cables, and Transformers.”

Meanwhile, the contractors appealed to the LG led administration to look into the matter and ensure that the dues are released on time.
