District Ganderbal Shines in Provincial Level Sports Championships

YSS Promotes Sporting Enthusiasm, encourages youth to the maximum possible levels: Director YSS

Ganderbal, May 24 :The Department of Youth Services and Sports organized a series of sports activities as part of the G-20 Celebrations at Ganderbal, showcasing the paramount energy and enthusiasm of the youth. The District made remarkable achievements in various sports championships, highlighting the talent and dedication of its athletes.

In the ongoing Inter District provincial level Judo championship held at Srinagar, District Ganderbal’s Judo player, Shah Mehfooz from BHSS Ganderbal, emerged victorious by clinching the GOLD medal in the under 55 weight category. The District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Ganderbal congratulated Shah Mehfooz on his outstanding performance and wished him success in his future endeavors.
Another significant event was the Zonal Level Inter District Chess competition for Boys and Girls under the age of 17. The competition, held at GHSS Ganderbal, witnessed the participation of 40 talented players from different zones of the district. After an intense battle of wits, the meritorious student players were felicitated with well-deserved medals, recognizing their exceptional skills. While congratulating the medal winners, Director of the Department Subash C Chibber has said that the Department is committed to promote Sporting Enthusiasts and to encourage energies of the youth to the maximum possible levels. Hoping that the field staff of the Department would leave no stone unturned in tapping and channelizing sports talent in students and youth in general Director YSS said that every possible effort is being taken to polish the sports talent of youth and it’s yielding us the desired results.

Simultaneously, the Inter School Zonal Level Football Competition took place at MM Stadium Ganderbal for Boys under the age of 17. Despite heavy rains, the young footballers from all four zones of the district displayed their spirit and energy, making the event a grand success. The participants expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the DYSSO Ganderbal for organizing such exciting events. The winning teams were awarded trophies and medals by senior officials of the Department, motivating them to continue their sporting journey.
Meanwhile, in Zone Poonch, the Department of Youth Services and Sports organized an Inter School competition for girls under the age group of 17. The competition included various sports like Kho Kho, Chess, Carrom, Kabaddi, Volleyball, and Badminton. Around 150 budding girls from different schools participated enthusiastically at the sports stadium in Poonch. The opening ceremony was graced by Principal Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch, Rupinder Kour along with DYSSO Poonch Mohd Qasim and other revered guests. The chief guest commended the Department for providing an excellent platform to the youth of Poonch through such events. Mohd Qasim, DYSSO Poonch, encouraged all participants to play with true sporting spirit and give their best, emphasizing that participation matters more than winning or losing.
In North Kashmir’s Kupwara District, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the guidance of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Zahoor Ahmad Wani, conducted sports activities in the remote area of Tangdar. These activities aimed to promote sports and disseminate information about the upcoming G-20 Summit being hosted by J&K. Despite inclement weather conditions, a large number of students and senior citizens actively participated in various sports disciplines, reflecting their enthusiasm and love for sports. The worthy DYSSO highlighted the importance of games and sports for leading a healthy and joyful life, urging participants to actively engage in sporting activities.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports remains committed to nurturing and encouraging the sporting spirit among the youth of J&K and beyond. These initiatives not only provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent but also contribute to their holistic development.
