Korea strongly supports India’s G20 Presidency: Ambassador CHANG

Srinagar, May 23 :Korean Ambassador to India CHANG Jae-bok on Tuesday said his country strongly supports India’s G20 Presidency.

The Korean Ambassador on Monday caught the attention of G20 delegates in Srinagar when he danced to the popular “Naatu Naatu” song from SS Rajamouli’s RRR along with the movie star,

Ram Charan.

“Dancing with a star like Ram Charan, it’s kind of, you know, a dream come true. So I never imagined to do so,” CHANG told reporters on the sidelines of the G20 event in Srinagar.

The high profile third G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting kicked off in Srinagar on Monday amid unprecedented security. The three day G20 meet under India’s presidency, is the first major event in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, when the erstwhile state’s special status was scrapped and it became a Union Territory.

About 60 delegates from G20 countries are participating in the event.

The Ambassador said Korea was very supportive of the G20 presidency of India.

“Here, Srinagar’s meeting is the third working group for G20 tourism. And then you do go to the final stage in Goa and hopefully the Member States and then invited countries will come up with the consensus for the document. And then as far as the Korean delegation is concerned, we are very supportive of the G20 presidency of India for its great success,” he said.

On China’s boycott of the G20 Meet in Kashmir, the Korean Ambassador said each country has its own position on any issue and they cannot have a specific comment on that.

“However, Korea strongly supports the government of India’s G20 Presidency and wishes it a great success,” he said.

He said India and Korea need to promote the people to people exchanges to boost tourism.

“We need to promote the people to people exchanges and cultural exchanges between our two governments and then the people will have more interest in both countries. We have a lot of cultural events, so hopefully the Indian people and Korean people will become more interested in both countries respectively. That means we will see a lot of Korean tourists coming to this place,” he said.

He said this year, Korea and India celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties and through this celebration the tourists can be attracted.
