Praveen Sood second Himachali to head CBI

Kangra, May 15: Praveen Sood, the current DGP of Karnataka, is set to become the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is the second person from Himachal Pradesh to hold the position of Director of the CBI, after the late Ashwini Kumar.

Sood belongs to Pragpur, in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, but completed his education in Delhi, where his father was in government service. Sood’s family owned a business named Nihalu Mal Puran Chand in Pragpur of Kangra, a heritage Village at present.

He obtained his engineering degree from IIT Delhi before being selected to the Indian Police Services in 1986. Sood began his career as ASP Najangud. Thereafter remained Police Commissioner in Mysore in 1989 and has since served in various positions in the police department.

Brij Mohan Sood uncle of Parveen Sood, said that Parveen had been a regular visitor to Pragpur and thus kept himself connected with his roots.

“His appointment as the Director of the CBI is a testament to his capabilities and the trust placed in him by the Indian government”, commented his brother-in-law Vikas Sood while sharing news of his new assignment. With his extensive experience and strong track record in law enforcement, Sood is poised to lead the CBI towards greater success, he said..

Sood will replace Sobodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS 1985 batch. Sood was to retire in May 2024, but will now get an extension, till 2025, when he would complete his tenure as CBI Chief.
