EAM calls on Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina

New Delhi/Dhaka, May 11 :External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Dhaka, on Thursday evening called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a tweet, the EAM said the guidance and vision of the leaders of both countries continues to strengthen India-Bangladesh Maitri.

“Honoured to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh. Conveyed personal greetings and warm regards of PM @narendramodi.

“The guidance and vision of our leaders continues to strengthen India-Bangladesh Maitri.”

According Bangladesh media reports, during the meeting the two sides expressed satisfaction at the level of bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The satisfaction was expressed when External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

“Both sides have expressed satisfaction at the level of bilateral cooperation in various fields,” he said, Dhaka Tribune reported.

During the meeting, they discussed the South Asian regional economy amid the emerging situation in the backdrop of the post-Covid pandemic and Ukraine conflict.

They also discussed the Sixth Indian Ocean Conference to be held on Friday and Saturday in Dhaka, and the G20 summit to be held in India in September.

PM Hasina hoped India will make significant contribution for advancing the interest of the people of the developed and least developed countries.

Prime Minister Hasina conveyed her regards to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jaishankar thanked Bangladesh for hosting the Sixth Indian Ocean Conference. Bangladesh’s participation is very big, he said.

Prime Minister’s Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma and Indian Deputy High Commissioner Dr Binoy George were present.

EAM is visiting Dhaka from May 11-12 to participate in the 6th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference.

The Indian Ocean Conference will be attended by President of Mauritius Prithvirajsing Roopun, Vice President of Maldives Faisal Naseem, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, and several Ministers from across the world
