Dr Samoon lays foundation stone for workshop block, 50 bedded hostel at ITI Charar-e-Sharief

Spays focus being given on providing job oriented skill courses to youth

Budgam, Apr 28: Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today laid foundation stones for Workshop Block and 50 bedded Hostel at Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Charar-e-Sharief in Budgam.

During the visit, Principal Secretary also chaired a certificate distribution function where meritorious students of various related trades and another short term courses like SHGS were felicitated. Besides, success stories of pass out students were also felicitated by the Principal Secretary.

Stressing on providing skilled education to students for better employment prospects, Principal Secretary said that as many as 6000 youths, both girls and boys, have been trained under various short term courses last year while as target of imparting training to 20, 000 youths hasbeen set for this financial year.

Principal Secretary asked the officers for speedy completion of both the projects including hostel accommodation with all requisite facilities available to students. He stressed on providing skilled training to local youth under different trades saying that handholding of skilled youth shall open economic resources and employment avenues for them.

Principal Secretary said that ITI Charar-i-Sharier which has been established in the year 1988 has been immensely contributing in training of youth under various skilled trades.

He said that the workshop block and 50 bedded hostel, being established with an estimated cost of Rs 134.76 lakhand Rs 191.75 lakh respectively shall reinforce the contribution from this institution.

Director, Skill Development Department, Sudarshan Kumar, who also spoke on the occasion, said that under the guidance of Principal Secretary SDD is achieving new heights in terms of providing skill training to the youth of J&K, be it long term regular courses or short term courses, development and upgradiation of infrastructure in terms of buildings, providing of latest machinery\equipment to ITIs and development of Human Resources, teaching and non teaching staff of Skill Development Department.

He said 25 Job oriented regular courses are functional in ITI Budgam and ITI Charar-e-Sharief, having a total intake capacity of 592 (340 | 252).

Superintendent, ITI Charar-e-Sharief, Bashir Ahmad, said that 100 percent target in terms of admissions was achieved last year in both the ITIs of the district.

Moreover, short term training has also been provided to 371 candidates in the last two years in Government ITI Charar-i-Sharief.

Among others, SDM Chadoora, Prince Noorul Hamid, State Engagement Officer NSDC, Kehkashaan Anjum, officers from local administration, PWD, SDD, faculty and trainees of ITI Charara-i-Sharief were also present on the occasion.
