EAM joins Guyanese President for Eid dinner, interacts with Indian community

New Delhi/Georgetown (Guyana), Apr 24 :External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar joined Guyanese President Irfaan Ali at his Eid dinner and thanked him for his hospitality and warm welcome during his Guyana visit. EAM also interacted with the Indian community and conveyed that the two nations are forging a partnership fit for purpose for the contemporary era.

EAM Jaishankar also visited the monument to the Indian arrival in Berbice, Guyana, and also joined the Indian diaspora at the Ram Krishna Dharmik Mandir in Georgetown for the morning prayers on Sunday.

In tweets, he said:

“Joined President Irfaan Ali at his Eid dinner this evening.

Thanked him for his hospitality as well as warm welcome during my Guyana visit.”

On his interaction with the Indian community, EAM said that the two nations were resolved to upgrade the level of their partnership.

“Delighted to interact with the Indian community today evening in Guyana. Thank Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and Speaker Manzoor Nadir for joining us.

“Conveyed that we are forging a partnership that is fit for purpose for the contemporary era.

“Apprised them of my discussions with the Guyanese leadership and our common resolve to upgrade the level of our partnership.”

He also met Guyanese service officers who underwent training in India as part of the ITEC programme.

“Pleased to meet Guyanese service officers yesterday who underwent training in India.”

On his visit to Berbice and a Hindu temple, he posted:

“Visited the evocative monument to Indian arrival in Berbice, Guyana.

Shared my admiration of their endeavours and successes with the diaspora.

Thank Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Charles Ramson Jr. for joining.”

“Paid my reverential homage to Bapu at his memorial and planted an India-Guyana friendship tree.

Gandhiji’s message for climate consciousness is universal and timeless.”

“Joined the diaspora at the Ram Krishna Dharmik Mandir in Georgetown in its morning prayers. Thank Minister of Human Services Vindhya Vasini Persaud for participating.

“So glad to see how traditions, heritage and customs are being maintained.”

“India and Guyana, a traditional partnership that is being refashioned for contemporary times.”
