Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal, visits Ahat-e-Waqar; presides over awareness programme

Ganderbal, Apr 8: Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal today visited Ahat-e-Waqar (Senior citizen Home) at Wayil Ganderbal, and presided over Legal awareness programme on “Maintenance and welfare of parents & senior citizens Act, 2007” and supervised the living conditions of senior citizens.

The programme was organized under the Chairmanship of Chairman DLSA Ganderbal, Ritesh Kumar Dubey and under the guidance of Secretary DLSA Ganderbal, Nusrat Ali Hakak.

Secretary DLSA interacted with the senior citizens. She said that Ahata-e-waqar is a recreational centre for elderly people. There is an urgent need to boost our efforts to support the elderly members of our society and raise legal awareness among them.

It is well known that the elderly people require a significant amount of attention and support to lead fulfilling lives, that such personal interactions can significantly improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of the elderly persons, especially those living in isolated conditions, she added.

Legal Assistant DLSA Ganderbal, Gulafroz Khan delivered a lecture on legal aspects and explained different laws for senior citizens including MWPSC Act, 2007 and prevention of Elder Abuse.
