CPI(M) demands probe into “irregularities” in agriculture universities following CAG report

Srinagar, Mar 30 : Following the draft report of Comptroller and Audit General (CAG) exposing the discrepancies in the recruitment and promotion procedures with the top agricultural universities of Jammu and Kashmir, M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has sought a credible probe into the issue.

The CAG in its reports has pointed out that the “authorities in both SKUAST Jammu and SKUAST Kashmir had violated the UGC norms” for the direct recruitment of teaching positions, promotions and entitlements.

The observations made by the CAG are of very serious nature, which needed to be probed thoroughly so that responsibility could be fixed, Tarigami said in a statement.

“The flagrant violation of the norms and favouritism is bound to only dent the image of these top-tier institutions but also mar their academic, research and other activities. This is very unfortunate that those who had helmed the affairs of such institutions were found involved in the venal practices by an independent authority like CAG,” the statement added.

“It becomes imperative to commission a credible investigation into the irregularities pointed out by the CAG to save these prime institutions,” he said.
