Two weeklong FDP on thermal characterisation concludes at NIT Srinagar

Committed to serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and imparting skills through different mediums: Prof. Wani

Srinagar, Mar 27: A two-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Thermal Characterization and Advanced Measurement Techniques” concluded on Monday at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

The FDP was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Training and Learning Academy, New Delhi.

The valedictory function was presided over by Incharge-Director NIT Srinagar, Dean (R&C) Prof. M.F. Wani and Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari  were ‘Guest of Honor’ on the occasion.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Bukhari said FDPs are a crucial aspect of academic growth, ensuring the teachers have the latest knowledge and techniques to impart to our students.

“FDP’s are a great way to stay current, learn new skills, and connect with other professionals in your field. They are an essential aspect of academic growth and should be taken advantage of whenever possible,” he said.

Prof. Bukhari said such FDPs help faculty members develop new and effective teaching strategies that can improve student learning outcomes.  It helps them to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their respective fields.

Head MED, Prof. Adnan Qayoum said the FDP was designed to provide participants with exposure to the latest developments in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

“The online sessions were conducted by experts from IITs and NITs, who delivered lectures on a range of topics such as Advanced Fluid Mechanics, Experiential Heat Transfer, Renewable Energy, Energy Management, Optical Measurements, Microfluidics, Teaching Education Strategies, Life Skills Attained from Education, and more, he said.

Prof. Adnan said the offline sessions were delivered by the expert faculty of NIT Srinagar, KU, IUST, IIT Roorkee, NIT Roorkee, and TSI India Ltd.

“The sessions were exhaustive and comprehensive, covering various aspects of Mechanical Engineering such as state-of-the-art techniques involving measurement, automation, and real-world issues,” he said.

Prof. Adnan said the participants also had the opportunity to visit the HPCL bottling plant, where they were exposed to the latest methods of designing and manufacturing complex models and accessories for their research.

The FDP also included a visit to the Central Research Facility Centre (CRFC), where the participants had hands-on training sessions on the various equipment.

The sessions were conducted by Dr. Nadeem under the supervision of Prof. M F Wani. All sessions were followed by highly interactive discussions with the participants, which provided an opportunity for networking and collaboration.

During the function, the organizing team members were felicitated for their efforts in making the FDP a success.

The FDP was a success, and the participants gained excellent exposure in both experimental and computational fields. The FDP provided them with the latest measurement and characterization tools that are essential in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

The networking opportunities established during the FDP may lead to collaborative works and benefit all.

Earlier, a group of faculty members from NIT Srinagar also visited the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Bottling Plant in Pampore.
