DC B’la chairs DLMC meeting; takes stock of progress of FPOs

04 Blocks designated to NAFED for formation of new FPOs

Baramulla, Mar 18: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today chaired a District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) meeting for formation of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) in the district.

The meeting was attended by all the major line departments besides all Cluster Based Business Organization operating in the district.

The DLMC meeting was convened by its Member Secretary CSS FPO and was organised to review the progress of the existing FPOs in the district and for approval of new blocks of the district for formation of new FPOs during the FY 2022-23.

During the presentation given by the member Secy CSS-FPO, Zubair Wasil gave an overview of the schemes and briefed that among 18 functional FPOs in the district, 05 FPOs are working with NABARD, 09 with SFAC and rest 04 FPOs are with NAFED.

During the presentation, he discussed the progress of the FPOs in the district and shared the suggestion of improving the market visibility in the district.

Dr Sehrish while speaking on the occasion emphasised on CBBOs to work in tandem with the farmers and add value in the produce of the farmer members so that the farmers get confidence in the FPO so that it should become the medium for them to explore more possibilities in forming the FPO.

She also suggested that FPO should not be a one man; rather every member who is involved in the FPO should get benefit from input and sale of produce of the farmer output.

Meanwhile, the DC also highlighted the importance of Farmer Producer Organization and said that FPOs aim is to enhance farmer’s competitiveness and increase their advantage in emerging market opportunities. She further elaborated that FPOs are catering the forward and backward linkages of the farmers and help them to organize in its sector.

Meanwhile, during the meeting 04 blocks were also designated to NAFED for formation of new FPOs in the district which include Tujjer Sharif, Sangrama Block, Kunzer Block and Wailoo Block of Baramulla.
