DLSA Ganderbal organizes Legal Awareness program for Women

Ganderbal, Mar 11: As part of Pan India programme, launched by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in collaboration with National Commission for Women (NCW), the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal today organized Legal Awareness programme for women, at CDPO, ICDS Office Kangan.

The awareness was raised on the topics “Family Law, Civil & Criminal Laws, Labour Laws, Women & Reproductive Health Rights”.

The programme was held under the Chairmanship of Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman DLSA Ganderbal and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal.

The program was attended by officials of DLSA Ganderbal, Panel Lawyers of DLSA Ganderbal, Naureen, BPM NRLM Wakoora, Sobiya, Social Worker of Women’s cell, PLVs, Aganwadi workers and Helpers, Members of Self Help Groups, and local women.

The programme started with the playing of NALSA Theme Song and playing a documentary of NCW.

Gulafroz Khan, Legal Assistant, DLSA Ganderbal gave the introductory speech and said that the noble objective of this programme was to impart practical knowledge among women about the basic legal rights and remedies provided under various women related laws, to make women aware of the various machineries/organs of the Justice delivery system available for redressal of their problems/grievances, and to sensitize Women & Girls about their Rights as provided under the various laws including the Indian Penal Code, 1860; the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961; the Prevention of Domestic Violence to Women Act, 2005 etc.

Adv, Abid Jeelani, presented a thoughtful powerpoint presentation and informed participants about the role of Legal Services authorities and National Commission for women in the advancement of status of women.

He apprised the participants about Marriage and Divorce, Maintenance Laws, Women right to property, Domestic Violence, Dowry Death, Acid Attack, Outraging modesty of woman, POCSO ACT.

The participants were briefed about securing the rights of women by utilizing the laws meant for the protection of women. They were further requested to attend such programmes in future also for the purpose of understanding the rights of women and their protection.

Adv. Zulfikar Alam, also presented thoughtful power point and aware participants about Labour Laws, Prevention of Sexual Harassment at work place, Maternity Benefit Act, Factories Act, Equal Remuneration Act & Women & Reproductive health Rights, Women and Reproductive Health Rights, Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, and PNDT Act.

He briefed, Laws Governing on Sexual Harassment, Employees Responsibility, Procedure of filing Complaint, Procedure of Enquiry, punishment for Sexual Harassment, punishment for Malicious Compliant or False Evidence. He said, Absence of complaints of sexual harassment does not necessarily mean absence of sexual harassment.

Sobiya Shabir, Social Worker of Special cell for women, District Ganderbal, also threw light on the topic and made participants aware about the role & functioning of Special cell for women, District Ganderbal.

Later,  booklets/pamphlets were distributed among the participants and general discussion and question and answer sessions were also held.
