Wet weather in store for J&K for nearly a week from Sunday

Srinagar, Feb 25 : A generally cloudy to wet weather is in store for Jammu and Kashmir for nearly a week from Sunday.

According to independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif, Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be affected by two Western Disturbances.

He said the first disturbance is expected on February 26, bringing a light to moderate spell of rain in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, with the possibility of light snowfall in higher regions.
“However, nothing significant is expected on this day,” he said.

The independent weather forecaster whose predictions are based on scientific models and information said the second disturbance is forecasted to occur from Monday 27 evening until March 3 early morning.
“It is expected to bring moderate rainfall to most places in the plains, along with lightning, thunder, and gusty winds in some areas,” he said. “However, no continuous rainfall is expected anywhere. In the higher regions, moderate to heavy snowfall is possible.”

Meanwhile, the night temperatures continued to show an upward trend. Except Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Konibal weather stations in Kashmir, the night temperature was recorded above sub-zero level last night.
The Meteorological department said that Srinagar recorded a low of 1.6°C last night. The day temperature in Srinagar on Friday was 18.4°C, about 8.1 notches above normal.

The night temperature at Pahalgam resort in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir was recorded at minus 3.2 °C last night. The day temperature on Friday was 15.3 °C at the resort.

MeT said the night temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was recorded minus 1 °C, some 5 degrees above normal. The day temperature on Friday was 8.4°C, about seven degrees above normal.

Konibal in Pampore Pulwama recorded minus 1.6 °C last night.

Qazigund, the gateway town to the Valley, recorded a low of 0.2° Celsius, while the mercury in Kokernag settled at 2.5° Celsius.

Kupwara in North Kashmir registered a low of 0.3° Celsius.

Jammu recorded a low of 11 °C last night. Banihal recorded a low of 6.4°C , Batote 8°C , Katra 11.6°C and Bhaderwah 3.7°C

Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 9 °C and minus 12.4 °C respectively, the MeT official said.
