Nine houses, cowshed damaged in landslide in Sonamarg, highway closed

Residents, their livestock moved to safer places:Officials

Srinagar, Feb 20 : Around nine houses and a cowshed were damaged due a landslide in Rezin area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir Ganderbal district while Srinagar-Leh  highway continues to remain closed.

An official told The Kashmir Scroll that the landslide triggered by heavy rainfall caused massive damage to houses and a cowshed and also blocked the Leh highway.

He said that residential houses Md Iqbal Raina S/ O Ab Reman, Md Yousuf Raina S/ O Ab Ahad, Shabir Ahmed Raina S/ O Gh Mohammad, Md Jammal Raina S/ O Gh Mohammad, Md Yousuf Raina S/ O Gh Mohammad, Md Kamal Raina S/ O Gh Mohammad , Zahoor Ahmed Raina S/ O Ab Reman, Ab Salam Raina S/ O Gh Mohammad and Md Aslam Barwal S/ O Sayain Barwal  all residents of Rezan Gund have been damaged So far.

However, no loss of life or injury was reported yet, he said adding that the livestock has been also evacuated safely from the area.

He added that the slide is triggering slightly this time  while teams of Police, SDRF and CAPF are on the spot to monitor the situation.
