Indian Army organized women’s sow cricket in Kupwara

Srinagar, Feb 16 : In a first of Its kind India Army organized women’s snow cricket tournament as part of Khelo India Initiative in village Panzgam of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.
Four teams from Kralpora and Meelyal Block participated in the first-of-its-kind event wherein young girls played cricket on a snowy field, demonstrating the passion for sports, a defence statement said.
The girls engaged enthusiastically in the game with strong passion.
A large number of people including public representatives and locals from the area were present to witness the first-ever winter sports tournament for girls in this area.
Indian Army conducts such events frequently in Kupwara which have seen widespread participation of local women.
Army also took several initiatives of establishment of skill development centres and organising competitions in schools to promote participation in extracurricular activities and sports are bringing a positive change.
Indian Army is committed to play a role in encouraging sports amongst local youth, the statement added.
