Snow disrupts traffic in Kashmir, all highways closed, flights delayed

Srinagar, Jan 25: Due to fresh snowfall in Kashmir and parts of Jammu, all important highways have been closed for traffic. However, train service is operational while at Srinagar Airport, and scheduled flights have been delayed.

Director Srinagar Airport informed that today’s morning scheduled flights have been delayed, and flight operation shall resume with improvement in visibility accordingly.

Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that all the important highways are closed for vehicular movement due to the slippery condition of the roads and snow accumulation.

He said Srinagar-Jammu Highway has been closed for traffic after landslides at Panthal.

Authorities had already closed the Mughal Road on 5 January due to snow accumulation while the Srinagar-Kargil road was closed for vehicular movement on 6 January.

Official sources said that Kupwara Machil Road, Kupwara-Karnah Road, Kupwara-Keran Road, Bandipora-Gurez Road, and Anantnag-Kishtwar Road are all closed for traffic.

A Railway official however said that the train service is operational despite inclement weather.
