Ganderbal’s Duderhama residents protest over installation of smart meters

 

Ganderbal, Jan 16 : Residents of Duderhamama in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday staged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD), over installation of smart meters in their area.

Reports reaching to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the protestors halted traffic movement on the Duderhamama road

The protestors said they could not afford the bills generated by smart meters and demanded meters be removed.

“Our children are jobless, how can we pay the hefty bills generated by these power meters? We won’t allow installation of these meters,” they said.

Meanwhile, assistant executive engineer PDD Sanjay Wakhlu said they have myths about smart meters that it will generate hefty bills.

“We came here to make people educate them about the same, but no one is ready to understand. Meters will only give new facilities and power supply will also be better,” he said.
