DC G’bl inspects work progress on Zojila, Z-Morh tunnel

Also tours Sonamarg to access development needs

Ganderbal, Sep 3 :The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today visited the construction site of Z-Morh tunnel to have first-hand appraisal of the work progress made on the tunnel.

On the occasion it was informed that work progress on the project is in full swing and work on 2.6 km approach road which includes 2 bridges and 18 culverts starting from Kullan is also in full swing.

Keeping in view the coming winter season, the DC directed the officials of the executing agency to expedite the pace of work on the ambitious project so that tunnel is used for traffic during the winter season.

He also directed the concerned to closely monitor all the construction/planning activities and SDM Kangan was asked to clear all land acquisition cases at an earliest.

While interacting with the officials, the DC said the tunnel will also benefit social and economic development of the region apart from boosting the tourism in Sonamarg region.

Later, the DC visited Sonamarg tourist destination where he visited taxi stand, main market and banks of Sindh Nallah to access the development needs, sanitation works, drainage and beautification plan to make the Sonamarg one of the best tourist destination in the valley.

While visiting taxi stand Sonamarg the DC was apprised about various issues including repairing of toilets and boundary wall, macdamization and accommodation for drivers.

The DC also inspected the market and other areas and gave necessary directions to the SDA for preparing action plan for the beautification of Sonamarg. He also urged the hoteliers to carry sanitation drives in the main market and backside of the market.

He reiterated that the district administration is committed to make Sonamarg one of the beautiful tourist destination and sought cooperation from all stake holders.

While inspecting the drainage system in main market Sonamarg the DC directed the SDM Kangan to carry survey regarding requirement of soak pits and asked the hoteliers and shopkeepers to apply for construction of soak pits so that necessary permission is issued as per guidelines.

During visit, the DC was accompanied by SDM Kangan, Tehsildar Gund, ARTO besides officials of APCO Infrastructure Ltd.
