Mega Placement Drive Held At Government Polytechnic For Women, Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 25 : A Mega Placement Drive was conducted  at Government Polytechnic for Women, Bemina Srinagar where the pass-outs of Polytechnics and ITI of district Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal participated. The event was inaugurated virtually by Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary Skill Development Department who in his address said that department is putting major emphasis on placement and Startups of pass outs so that they get gainful appointment and become employable. He impressed upon students for active participation in such drives.


The event was presided over by Mr. Sudershan Kumar, JKAS, Director Skill Development. Dr. Shafquat Ara, Principal Government Polytechnic for Women, Bemina Srinagar presented the welcome address. Director skill development in his address congratulated the principal and staff of Government polytechnic for Women, Bemina Srinagar for organizing the event and instructed for consistent efforts in future also. 2500 candidates have registered through online portal and 932 candidates have been shortlisted while as around 50 candidates were given on-spot offer letters during the drive wherein 25 companies/Industries offered placements and counseling. Some of the industries are Khyber Resorts, Taj Vivanta, Alba, TCI, Yokohama Tyres, Bajaj Auto Mobiles, CERA sanitary etc.

On the sidelines of the event, an incubation centre established by the institution for pass out students of Garment Technology was also inaugurated. The institution has also established Institutional Student Management System (i-SMS) for online management of students admitted in the institution. The online portal was launched officially by Director Skill Development at Government polytechnic for Women, Bemina Srinagar is the first Polytechnic in the UT to have established i-SMS. Director Skill Development appreciated the step taken by institution and instructed to make it more robust by adding more modules to the portal.

The event was attended by Principal of Polytechnics and ITIs, State Engagement Officer NSDC and Officers of Directorate of Skill Development, DGM, J&K Bank, representatives of JKEDI, District Employment and Counseling Centre Srinagar were also present besides the Heads of Industrial Bodies viz IGC Lassipora, CII.
A consultative meeting was also held with industrial representatives in order to understand the Job Market needs of local Industry so that necessary reforms are made in curriculum and Teaching methodology so that pass-out candidates are better employable. Repport by Hussain zalpori
