Rahul Dravid tests Covid+ ahead of Asia Cup

Bengaluru, Aug 23 : Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday.

Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms,” the BCCI said in a release. “He will join the team once he returns with a negative Covid-19 report.”

The rest of the team members will assemble in the UAE on August 23.

However, the BCCI has not announced any temporary head coach in Dravid’s absence, although VVS Laxman, current National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief, could be asked to join the team if Dravid does not recover in time.

Dravid was rested ahead of the Asia Cup with Laxman assuming duties of the head coach on the just concluded tour of Zimbabwe.

The Asia Cup will start from August 27 and India kick-starts its Asia Cup campaign against the arch rivals Pakistan on August 28.

India’s squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan
