Sonia Gandhi questioned for six hours by ED, summoned again on Wednesday

New Delhi, July 26 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi was questioned for over six hours on Tuesday, and has been summoned again on Wednesday.

The Congress President reached the ED office at around 11 am, accompanied by her son Rahul, daughter Priyanka and security guards. The Congress President was questioned for around two-and-a-half hours, after which she left for lunch break.

She joined the questioning again at around 3:30 pm and left the ED office at around 7 p.m.

Congress MPs, including Rahul, meanwhile staged a protest at Parliament House and marched towards Vijay Chowk, a stone’s throw away from Parliament. They were detained for several hours.

As Sonia was summoned again, Congress General Secretary Communication Jairam Ramesh said, “Congress MPs were released after a seven-hour detention at around 6:45 pm to the news that Sonia Gandhi has been summoned by the ED for a third day tomorrow.”

“This is Vishguru’s political vendetta with a vengeance. Atrocious is the mildest word to describe it!,” he added.

Congress lawmakers protested inside Lok Sabha and in the Parliament complex on the day when party President Sonia Gandhi appeared before the ED for questioning for the second day in the National Herald case.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi was detained among others as they marched out of the Parliament House.

“Look at the dictatorship, cannot hold peaceful demonstrations, cannot discuss inflation and unemployment. By misusing the police and agencies, even by arresting us, you will never be able to silence us. Only ‘Truth’ will end this dictatorship,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted as he was escorted to a police bus from the street where he staged a sit in along with other Congress leaders.

The Congress leaders were taken to the police station at Kingsway camp in Delhi. Congress leaders held a brainstorming session of Congress Parliamentary Party on issues of price rise, Agnipath, GST on food items, national security, the falling rupee and other issues concerning the people of India.

Sonia Gandhi is being questioned by ED today for the second day. She was also questioned for two-three hours on July 21.

Rahul Gandhi has already appeared for questioning at the ED for five days, and has been questioned for over 50 hours.

The National Herald case is related to a complaint filed in the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate that Associated Journals Limited (AJL) took an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore from Indian National Congress, which was not paid back.

Congress has maintained that there has been no money laundering involved, and has called the summon a politically-motivated move by the Modi government.
