Exhibition at Boulevard creates chaiotic situation: JK Hoteliers Club

‘Boulevard should provide pleasing experience to travellers’

Srinagar, July 15: Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club JKHC has taken strong note of the “nuisance” created by the exhibition at Boulevard near Dal Lake.

In a statement, JKHC said Boulevard is the first stop for tourists and the road leads to all Mughal Gardens on the banks of the lake making it the busiest and most congested place in Srinagar.

“The boulevard road is being used beyond its carrying capacity which leads to frequent traffic jams. The vehicles or tourists are not able to commute freely on the road causing lot of inconveniences both for the travellers and locals,” said J&KHC Secretary General Tariq Rashid Ghani.

Under such chaiotic situation, holding exhibition on the road further compounds the problems and defeats the purpose of this beautiful place, said JKHC.

“The tourist places like Boulevard should have more open and green spaces. Creating congestion at tourist places beyond its carrying capacity only spoils the beauty of the place,” demanded Hoteliers Club.

The Hoteliers Club further said allowing such exhibitions is open violation of High Court ban of any  temporary or permanent
construction within the premises of the lake as per court order dated 24-08-2005 in the case of PIL 190/2002 titled Syed Tahir Iqbal vs State and others.

The Hoteliers Club urged the LG Administration, Chief Secretary to intervene into the issue and impress upon the authorities to work on decongesting the boulevard from Dalgate to Nehru Park  by shifting the exhibitions to open area on the outskirts.
