JD YSS flags off trekking group to Gulmarg

’39 trekkers to take part  in 5 days trekking expedition’

Srinagar, July 1: Joint Director (JD) Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Kashmir Bashir Ahmed Friday flagged off a group of trekkers to Gulmarg from here.
About 39 girls from different Government educational institutions are participating in this trekking camp.


Interacting with the trekkers, Joint Director (JD) Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Kashmir, Bashir Ahmed said that the objective of the trekking expedition is to promote imbibe a spirit of adventure in the youth, build self-confidence and remain physically fit and mentally alert.

JD, YSS said that it will be a fun and great experience for  you to trek over the slopes and hills in Gulmarg where you will see a magnificent panoramic view of area from the top of the hills which will rejuvenate your inner soul.
“Trekking or hiking transforms in ways more than one can think! As it naturally follows, trekkers lead a happier and healthier life than the rest of the crowd. Trekking surely is holistically therapeutic. In fact, hiking is a good exercise to start with,” he said.

JD also urged the trekkers to exhibit high standard of discipline and cooperation during the days of trekking. He also urged all the girls to observe and learn about the fauna and flora of the places they wl be visiting and pen it down for knowledge and reference. He also made an appeal to the students to act as ambassadors in their institutions for eradication of drug menace that is effecting the society at a large pace.

“You are the future of Jammu and Kashmir and you all together have to build a new Jammu and Kashmir and that will only be possible when you inculcate in yourself the values of life, discipline and culture,” he said. He also said that while achieving the objectives of trekking, all trekkers shall have reap its benefits and inculcate best human values in them to become a good citizen.
Meanwhile, all the arrangements of transportation, boarding and lodging have been made for the successful conduct of the expedition by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS).
Besides trekking, the young girl trekkers shall be taking part in campfire and other allied activities in the camp. Well-trained and highly efficient officials of the Department have been deputed to escort the contingent. The participating gIrl students have been selected from different Government schools of district Srinagar. The participants were provided required equipment by the Department on their departure to Gulmarg.
DYSSO Srinagar Balbir Singh and other senior officers of the Department were present at the flag-off ceremony which took place at Youth Hostel Srinagar.
